I thought this was such an interesting question I did some research! The answer is that it is currently illegal to sell horsemeat for consumption in America. This has to do a lot with the lack of structured oversight for safety; however, the Trump administration may allow the US to start selling horsemeat to other countries (again) because the US has so many extra horses that we don't know what to do with (mustangs!).
